X-ray fluorescence analysis (RFA)

X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is an important method for characterizing materials. This allows the quantitative determination of the chemical composition of a workpiece.

Characterize materials

X-rays incident on the sample interact with the elements contained in the sample, generating element-specific fluorescence. All elements heavier than (and including) oxygen can be analyzed (carbon and sulfur, as key elements in steel are determined by combustion analysis). X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF) is used in particular in material development, quality control and damage investigations. The main field of application is the analysis of metallic and non-metallic materials such as steel, nickel or cobalt-based alloys, titanium alloys, etc.
Qualitech offers the possibility to perform wavelength dispersive X-ray fluorescence analyses even on very small components and samples. With our 5 mm specimen holders, in addition to the steel analyses already successfully offered on a long-term basis, the investigation of Ni-based alloys, Co alloys, Cu alloys and titanium alloys is also possible for specimens which do not reach the required standard measurement size of 13 mm.
